Overview of Eastern Plant Hire
Eastern Plant Hire (EPH) began in 1996 as a dedicated plant hire agency with the mission to be the most competitive and reliable earthmoving operators in Victoria. Our foundations were built around understanding our client’s needs to provide a consistent service to the builders, trades and civil contractors around Melbourne, from small domestic sites to major commercial developments. In 2004, after we successfully worked on the Eastern Freeway Extension, Craigieburn and Hallam Bypasses, EPH was appointed as the preferred cartage organizer for the $2.5Billion Eastlink Project. This experience helped EPH to developed as Victoria’s premier plant hire agency and was the catalyst for our involvement in future major projects such as the M80 Upgrade, Deer Park Bypass and Nagambie Bypass (just to name a few!) Since achieving our mission of becoming the most competitive and reliable earthmoving operators in Victoria, EPH has broadened it's vision to becoming the most competitive and reliable earthmoving operators on Australia's East Coast. EPH will never forget where we came from and what has got us to where we are today. - M80 Ring Road Upgrade
In December 2009, EPH mobilised a fleet of trucks for the major $647m section upgrade of the M80 Ring Road project in Victoria. There we undertook extensive contract work, from the Calder Freeway to Sydney Rd, with the Tulla Sydney Alliance. The Calder Freeway to Sydney Road upgrade saw extra lanes added to significantly reduce congestion and improve travel times. With over 160,000 drivers using the road every day, a number which is set to increase in the coming years, the M80 Ring Road project will create a faster and safer journey. We also established a committed network of local material reuse, disposal and supply options to ensure the lowest environmental impact and best outcome for the client and project. The $647m section, part of the greater $2.25bn AUD M80 Ring Road Project, was completed in 2013 where it finished ahead of schedule by four months. The section upgrade involved 11km worth of upgraded freeway and involved the creation of 3,000 jobs. While the Calder Freeway to Sydney Road section was completed in 2013, the greater $2.25bn AUD Ring Road Project is still underway with expected completion by 2021.
- Nagambie Bypass
In 2010, EPH was involved in major work with AbiGroup for the 13.5km main freeway section of the $188m Nagambie Bypass. Eastern Plant Hire supplied a fleet of quality trucks and equipment sets to the project. In addition to supplying hired trucks and equipment, EPH also undertook the stripping and blending of material from the GVR quarry to meet VicRoads Type A and Type B specifications, which produced over 600,000 tonnes worth of material. In an industry first, Eastern Plant Hire purchased the only certifiable portable weighbridge available in Victoria, which allowed EPH to guarantee that every load that was loaded, weighed and delivered was done in a safe and legal manner, with not a single load leaving site overloaded. This weighbridge is something which the entire company are now proud to be able to offer across all major civil projects.
- Dingley Bypass
In late 2011, EPH began contract work for the now-complete $156m Dingley Bypass project. The project covered a 6.4km stretch of road linking Warrigal Road at Moorabbin and Westall Road at Dingley Village. The Dingley Bypass project was focused on reducing traffic delays, removing through traffic from Dingley Village and providing safer conditions for pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers. EPH’s work was focused around working with Fulton Hogan to support material sourcing, supply and transport. The project saw the inclusion of three new lanes, a shared cycle and pedestrian path and new signals, It also created a provision for a future pedestrian and cycle underpass at Mordialloc Creek, constructed the Elder Street South Underpass, and relocated the access points to the South Road service lane.
- South Morang Rail
From August 2010 through to early 2012, EPH were involved in the major $650m South Morang Rail Electrification Project with John Holland in Victoria. In addition to supplying a fleet of machinery on hire, EPH were the primary cartage contractor for all material disposal and supply. The major South Morang Rail project, which opened in May 2012, saw improved safety and access for public and road transport in areas around railway developments in South Morang and Plenty Valley.
- Light Rail Works
EPH regularly undertakes contract work with Victoria’s leading light rail construction companies to deliver 24/7 service for critical occupation works. In 2019, there are three major projects currently active under Rail Project Victoria. They are the Melbourne Airport Rail Link, Metro Tunnel and Regional Rail Revival. Due to the high number of trucks and equipment that are required in high profile and tight access works like this, EPH regularly dedicates a representative to be present on site at all times to assist our clients with a direct line of communication between them and our subcontractors. EPH additionally provide coordination and planning of after-hours disposal locations for a variety of material produced during these works.
- Regional Rail Link
In August 2012, EPH was appointed as the preferred cartage contractor on a $835M project, RRL Package C, within the greater Regional Rail Link project by the Thiess Balfour Beatty Joint Venture. Package C was focused on work from Footscray to Deer Park. Through the project, EPH were involved in a new and alternative ‘major’ occupation which trialed the efficiency of three-week rail occupations, rather than multiple short occupations. This maximised productivity, safety, and planning and ensured more consistency of trains resuming their normal services. In addition to the tracks work included new rail bridges, two road/rail separations, a new station and station upgrades, improved level crossings, and the design and construction of train control systems.
