The health and safety of VEC’s people and our community is our first priority.
Our goal of Zero Harm requires continuous improvement to achieve zero work-related injuries. VEC’s managers are expected to lead by example and are held accountable for safety performance and creating a workplace culture that recognises the safety of VEC’s people and the community is paramount.

Road Construction

Innovation & Excellence in road construction

VEC has strong capabilities and experience in civil infrastructure, including all aspects of road construction and earthworks.

We have constructed many federal and state government-funded highways and roads, as well as undertaking extensive bulk earthworks in various locations around Australia. We are experienced in working across a wide spectrum of project delivery models and also undertake industrial and commercial developments.

We spend considerable resources on the research and development of new construction techniques and practices.

We manage all aspects of road construction including:

Design review;

Service relocation;

Drainage;

Earthworks (clearing, stripping, load ins, haul ins & placement);

Placement of gravel pavements;

Stabilisation of subgrades & pavements;

Sealing/asphalt;

Traffic management;

Landscaping; and

Working in environmentally sensitive areas.

Piling & Foundations
Innovation & Excellence in laying the foundation.
VEC’s pile driving capability ensures efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness for our clients.
VEC is the leading manufacturer in Tasmania of both prestressed concrete piles and conventionally reinforced concrete piles. Our equipment and services include:

A state-of-the-art Junttan pile rig:
The Junttan drives concrete, steel & timber piles up to 18m; and
Features rotary auger unit for pre-drilling.
2 x Volvo 29 tonne excavator mounted piling rigs with a variable hammer weight:
Easy conversion to cranes & excavators for site preparation & cleanup; and
All machines are capable of driving timber, steel & concrete piles.
A Side Grip Vibratory Hammer.
Splices that can be used to enable the driving of longer piles where required.
A pile design service (including pile splices).
The capability to perform in-house Pile Driving Analyser (PDA) testing and analysing using the CAPWAP® software.
VEC also has the capability of driving Sheet Piles (a row of piles driven side by side to retain earth or prevent seepage). Difficult ground conditions of the construction site can result in complex situations. We have proven in the past that we are able to overcome such challenges by developing methods for piling vinyl sheet piles successfully, as soft piles may not be rigid enough to penetrate through, for example, random scrap material.

Plant & Equipment

Innovation & Excellence in providing the right Plant & Equipment for the job.

VEC Plant & Equipment offers their professional support and equipment to other VEC divisions. Having this in-house division allows VEC the flexibility needed to the versatile construction industry.

The fleet we maintain includes specialised innovative equipment; we utilise local subcontractors where possible for standard plant and equipment to support the local communities.

The Plant & Equipment fleet includes:

A Junttan Pile Rig;

Two 29t pile capable excavators;

Hi-rail capable vehicles, trucks & rail maintenance machinery;

A trailer mounted robotic high pressure water jetting machine*;

A fleet of company vehicles; and

A field service truck set up for all on-site maintenance.

*VEC has a high pressure water jetting unit that includes a robotic frame which allows the equipment to be positioned and fixed to the structure, and then operated remotely without direct operator contact. This additional capability ultimately leads to reduced risk of personal injury, as well as improved efficiency of the equipment through removal of the fatigue risk.
