Hamilton Plains Turf

Hamilton Plains Turf farm is a locally owned company, built on old fashioned and honest principles synonymous with people who earn their living on the land.

Our working turf farm is located in the heart of the Whitsundays, where we sustainably produce three premium varieties of turf - Couch, Buffalo and Zoysia – that are all proven to survive and thrive in our tropical climate under the careful stewardship of our farmers.

We partner with fellow local businesses to freight and install our farm fresh produce from our farm gate, to the gardens of families, island communities and commercial projects across the Whitsundays and beyond.

We welcome our customers to plan a visit to the farm to see each variety of turf in the paddock, under the guide of one of our farmers.

Our turf variets include:

• GREENLEES PARK GREEN COUCH - Couch is a sun loving, fast-growing and drought tolerant variety of grass. With a striking bottle-green colour, this fine leafed grass is a firm favourite with residential developers for roadsides, local golf and sports fields and residential properties that are positioned in locations with full sun.
• SAPPHIRE SOFT LEAF BUFFALO - Buffalo is a shade-tolerant, medium growing and drought tolerant variety of grass. This lawn can withstand up to 70% shade in areas with low wear and up to 50% shade in areas with moderate to high wear, making it a favoured variety for residential and landscaping projects that require shade-tolerant grasses.
• NARA NATIVE ZOYSIA - Nara Native Zoysia has a medium shade-tolerance, is slow growing and has a very high drought tolerance threshold. This turf variety has vigorous deep rhizomes, enhancing its capacity to withstand drought conditions (as opposed to non rhizome grasses such as Buffalo) with this grass going into a dormant state to survive severe drought.
